About Our Children's Portraits

Children’s Portrait sessions are a lot of fun! Dancing, kung fu moves and sibling cuddles are all activity encouraged; we may even get out the bubbles or confetti for some added hilarity! I will capture your child’s unique character, moments of joy, laughter or even cheekiness in a way that you will be proud to display for years to come.

For older children in particular, a beautiful photo displayed and visibly valued by the family, can really enhance their self-esteem and confidence. I will ensure that they feel comfortable being in front of the camera and I will talk to them about what elements of their personality they would love to convey. It can be a collaborative experience and therefore an empowering one.

This is what some of the children themselves have to say about the experience of being photographed at Lucy McKenzie Photography…

'I felt like a cool and beautiful person. I didn't want to leave!'

'Lucy is really kind and pretty and nice. I liked having my photo taken. I was like a pop star having my photo taken.'

'I look so pretty with my apples and my mermaid legs. Lucy taught me to sit like a mermaid. She makes me laugh!'

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to Photograph my CHILD?

Sessions will last for up to 1 hour. You know your child best and know when they are likely to be on top form. A hungry, tired child is not going to be keen on anything, let alone being in front of a camera, so please think carefully about what time of day suits them best and I will try to accommodate that. It should be a really enjoyable experience, and I have regularly had feedback to say that children had so much fun they’d like to come back for more!

Is it possible for my partner and other children to be included in the session?

You value photographs of your family and may well take lots on your phone to record special moments, but how often are both you and your partner in those photos together? It is definitely worth capturing a full family photo as this will be one a rare opportunity to do so and one that your children will truly treasure for years to come.

Where is the session held?

Your session will take place in my dedicated studio in central Tunbridge Wells. There is parking available directly outside.

Do you Work on Weekends?

Most Children's Portrait photography sessions are booked between Monday and Friday, so I recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date within the school holidays. Occasionally weekend sessions do become available, though these are limited.

How do I book my session?

Please complete an online enquiry form including your child's age and development stage and I will be in touch to answer any further questions you may have and to propose some dates for your photo shoot. Sessions are booked according to my diary availability. Alternatively, feel free to call me to discuss your session. Please be aware that if I am photographing a client, I will not be able to take your call, but please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

When will I see the images?

On the day of your session I will photograph your child in different poses. You will be presented with a collection of at least 10 beautifully edited and printed photographs at your viewing session, which we will schedule to take place approximately two weeks later. This is the exciting moment when you will choose and order your photographs, so I advise that all decision makers are present at this meeting. You can take your selected prints and corresponding digital copies home with you on that day. We will discuss the options for wall art which can be ordered at this stage too.

How much does it cost?

There is a session fee of £100. This covers my time and expertise.

You will choose and order your favourite photos at a separate ordering session. Prices start at £55 for an individual printed image and its corresponding digital copy, and packages from £500.

Please refer to the Investment page for more details or to contact me and request a detailed pricing guide.

Can I just buy digital files?

All of my collections include both the printed and corresponding digital copies of the photographs that you select on a USB. Digital files cannot be bought separately. There is nothing like holding your memories in your hands, and I believe that they deserve to be displayed using only the highest quality, professional materials.

Is there a minimum spend requirement when it comes to ordering my photos?

Absolutely not. You will only purchase the photographs that you love, whether that is a single image or the full collection. There will certainly be no hard sell - I hope that the photos of your beautiful child will speak for themselves.
